Submission guidelinesOverviewAll story submissions should appeal specifically to Columbus parents and should have a local tie and/or local sources. The editor rarely accepts material that doesn’t contain a localized slant. The editor will consider pieces that are well-researched, offer practical advice, reveal previously-unreported topics or use a unique approach to a familiar topic. Use any issue of our publication as a guide. Please note that fiction, poetry, children’s stories, cartoons and unsolicited reviews are rarely printed. If the same article has appeared in another publication, the editor most likely will not print the article unless it has been adapted to fit the local market and SubmissionsAll submissions should be mailed to: Staci Perkins, Editor,Columbus Parent Magazine, 7871 North Central Drive, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035 Telephone queries are discouraged. Include a query letter and ideas on how you intend to incorporate a local angle with your reprint submission. If you are not sending a reprint, your letter should include a sample of the style of the proposed article, indicate the perspective and list potential sources. All submissions should contain two to three clips of your writing style and a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) for a response. Submissions without a SASE will not receive a response. AcceptanceIf your manuscript is accepted, the editor will contact you. By accepting your article idea, the editor makes no commitment to a publishing date. CopyAll articles should be written according to AP Style and saved as a “text” document. The length and number of sources will be discussed once the story is accepted. EditingThe editor reserves the right to edit all articles. When possible, the editor will consult with the author, especially when major changes or facts are involved. PaymentPayment is made after the story is printed. The fee is negotiated and agreed upon when the author is notified that the idea has been accepted or when assigned. The writer is responsible for sending an invoice with address, phone number and social security number after the article is completed. Payment will not be made until an invoice is received. |
